A walkable city community correlates to a significantly stronger reported quality of life. Evidence continues to grow that more and more people want to live and work where they can walk more and drive less.

CAT’s pedestrian initiative aims to improve walkability in the Lehigh Valley by raising driver awareness and informing drivers that they have the responsibility to always yield to pedestrians who are in a crosswalk, whether marked or not. By slowing down and looking for pedestrians, drivers can more easily detect and yield, avoiding serious injury or death. Likewise, CAT always reminds pedestrians to use crosswalks, give drivers time to stop, and not suddenly walk or run out.

Join CAT-Coalition for Appropriate Transportation around the City of Bethlehem throughout June 2023 (and at other Lehigh Valley locations into 2024):

1. Street Banners: look for five (5) large street banners hung in the City of Bethlehem throughout the
   summer of 2023.
2. Media Event: Join CAT and Mayor Reynolds on Wednesday, June 7 at 11 a.m. on the sidewalk of the Ideal Food Basket, across from 329 Broadway, Bethlehem, PA 18015 as they launch CAT’s initiative to improve pedestrian safety in the City of Bethlehem and across the entire Lehigh Valley.
3. A public pedestrian awareness event featuring interactive activities, giveaways, and more will be held on June 10, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Rose Garden Farmers’ Market.

CAT believes that with all Bethlehem has to offer, completing our streets to make them safe for
walkers/rollers of all ages would make it one of the best cities in the country.
