SPRINGTIME FARMERS MARKET RIDE – BETHLEHEM TO HELLERTOWN 

Hi everyone – We’ll be doing a mild-mannered 13-15 mile ride this Sunday, May 19, starting and ending at Bethlehem Area Public Library/Payroll Plaza/City Hall (N. New and Church Streets) in Bethlehem. Our destination will be the Saucon Valley Farmers Market in Hellertown. Our route will be a mix of trails and mostly quiet back roads. We’ll start gathering around 9:30 am. and  Feel free to come closer to 9:30 if you need to make any minor adjustments to your bike, like airing up your tires, adjusting your seat, etc.

All are welcome on this ride. The route is appropriate for most types of bikes; though the loose-rock surface of the southside greenway east of the skatepark can be a little tricky for riders with skinny tires, it’s no big deal if you prefer to walk that relatively short section. (Doing so will give you time to check out the eagles’ nest visible from that spot.) After the trail, there are some slight hills, because this is Pennsylvania, but they are relatively minor. We will leave to the group to decide what level of hilliness you want. We will go at whatever pace the group wishes, though nobody will get dropped for going too slowly. Even if you are not generally comfortable riding on the roads, riding in a group makes you extremely visible to other road users and thus adds a layer of safety for you.

All riders are required to wear a helmet. It’s also a good idea to bring some water. If you plan to make purchases at the farmers market, you may want to bring some bags and bungies; if you don’t have panniers, ride leaders can likely spare some space in theirs.
