FLOWERING FORAY IN AND ABOUT EASTON

FLOWERING FORAY IN AND ABOUT EASTON

Hi everyone – How about another fun ride this weekend? We are all systems GO for a foray into Easton. With the Spring season in full flower, we are going to get out there in the thick of it!

We will begin and end our ride THIS SATURDAY APRIL 8 at the parking lot by the National Canal Museum, off the D&L trail, in Hugh Moore Park, with a start time of 11 a.m.. For any of you traveling to Hugh Moore Park by car from downtown Easton: as of this writing (Thursday morning 4/6), a portion of Lehigh Street remains closed due to a fire in that vicinity this past week; however, it appears that getting to the Park via 25th Street remains viable.

The distinct gift of this ride is that our route will be about as flat as one can get in Pennsylvania, mostly on trails by the Lehigh/Delaware rivers and also by the Bushkill Creek. We will also do some riding on city streets, as one of our intended stops will be Easton’s Public Market, where you can get your choice of food and drink, from sweet to savory and everything in between. Our estimate for the total mileage of the ride is about 11-12 miles.

If riding on streets even for short distances is not comfortable for you, please know that we will be traveling in a group and will be highly visible to all other traffic. If you tip us off that you’d like some help with road riding, we’ll do our best to make sure you are surrounded by our most confident and skilled riders. On the other hand, if there are those among you who adore road riding, there may be an option for those who wish to, to do our return trip to Hugh Moore Park primarily via roads. Let’s play it by ear. Like all of CAT’s fun rides, we will keep an easy pace acceptable to the slowest among us, and we’ll take plenty of breaks along the way.

The trails we’ll ride are mostly paved, or hard packed dirt, okay for even the skinniest-tired of road bikes. The basic necessities for you as a rider are: a bike of any sort in working condition, a helmet, and some water. If you have any physical or medical conditions of which you’d like to inform the ride leaders ahead of time, or if you need any other accommodations, please feel free to contact us at annef@lvcat.org or bill@lvcat.org.
