DOUBLE BEVERAGE RIDE THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 2, 2023
Short version: Sunday, April 2, leaving CAT (1935 W. Broad Street) 11 a.m. for mild road ride of about 10 miles.
Hey everybody, In case you didn’t notice, it’s Spring! The calendar says so and the temperature almost agrees.
Let’s crawl out of our Winter doldrums with our first bakery ride of the season. How about you join in this Sunday APRIL 2 for a mild mannered road ride up the Lehigh River to Blocker’s coffee shop in Catasaqua? The route to the coffee shop is about 5 miles, with some mild hills. (If you want more hills, we can suggest alternate routes. But I can’t promise we won’t talk about you for asking.) We’ll go a slow pace, no faster than the slowest among us.
We’re billing this as a double beverage ride, because after we are through with our morning tea or coffee at Blockers, any who wish to can join us after the ride for a different sort of beverage at one of our favorite brewpubs in east Allentown.
We’ll leave from the CAT office (1935 W. Bro Street, Bethlehem) at 11 a.m.. We will be there by 10:30 a.m. to open the doors, in case you need to get air in your tires, lube your chain, or do any other last minute maintenance.
If road riding isn’t your usual thing, please know that we always put safety first and follow all the rules of the road. Most of the roads we take will are lightly traveled, and, cycling in a group, we are highly visible to other road users.
ALSO note that at least for the next month or so, as weather permits we’ll be alternating our weekend bakery fun rides with training rides, so that as the warm weather progresses, we all have increasing opportunities to ride together and incrementally increase our mileage. After the first month or so, you can expect the training rides to continue to go greater and greater distances; and you can count on the bakery fun rides to stay in their mild 10-25 mile range, with lots of stopping time, treats, and general silliness.
Wearing a helmet is a requirement to join CAT rides; we are happy to loan you one if necessary. The weather looks like it will be on the chilly side, so feel free to bring extra clothing as you see fit. Ride leaders will have space in our bags to help carry anything you might want to bring along.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at annef@lvcat.org.
