Hi everybody – Our next Over the Hill ride (for retirees and anyone else able to ride during the workday) will be this Monday, starting at 9 a.m. from the start of the Southside Greenway, at New and Mechanic Streets in Bethlehem.(Look here on Google Maps.) If you have to drive to the start of the ride, you should be able to find parking on Mechanic Street. Our route will take us through Bethlehem’s southside, through Saucon Park, and then via the roads into Hellertown, where we’ll stop to refresh ourselves with a late morning breakfast or early lunch at a bagel joint not far from Water Street Park. We will then return to Bethlehem via slightly different roads (because: boredom) and the Southside Greenway.
Total roundtrip distance is 10 miles. We expect to be done with the ride by noon or earlier.
Some highlights of this route are, it’s a fine mix of urban trail and quiet back roads.and it shows how easily we can get from one municipality to another, without having the challenge of sharing the route with fast moving traffic. Also, as we’ll be traveling in a group, we will be highly visible, enhancing our safety. Our route involves some minor hills, but don’t let that dissuade you from joining; we don’t drop anyone, and we don’t mind going at a slow pace or waiting for anyone who wants to walk the few hills. We’ll have one ride leader out front, and one riding at the back, so no one will be riding alone. For more information on the details, you can check out the route at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47391689.
Monday’s forecast is for warm weather, so be sure to bring some water. You might also want to bring a spare tube suitable for your size tire. Also, as this is a CAT ride, wearing a helmet is required.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at annef@lvcat.org or tim.phillips@lvcat.org . We hope you can join us. – Anne and Tim, CAT ride leaders
