2026 CAT Board of Directors Candidates
Douglas D. Trotter III
Douglas was born in Allentown, and his love of bicycles began early – starting with tootling around on a giant red Schwinn tricycle. After 35 years living in the Northwest and Pacific Northwest, he recently returned to the Lehigh Valley following his recent retirement and now happily calls Fountain Hill Borough in Bethlehem home. Shortly after his return he was introduced to CAT and quickly became as involved as possible with the initiative. He wholeheartedly supports CAT’s mission and the work it does in the community. Above all, he values the opportunity to help others and continue learning and growing through his involvement with CAT.
Edwin Kay
Ed is emeritus professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Lehigh University. He has commuted by bike to work for the last 45 years. He and his wife, Jannie, have bike toured on three continents. He strongly supports CAT because CAT plays a major role in educating youth about safe biking and because its advocacy has substantially improved his and Jannie’s biking in the Lehigh Valley.
David VanHorn
David bought his first 10-speed in 1974 for fun (of course!) and for transportation to classes and activities at his high school and Penn State University. David has ridden thousands of miles on roads and trails primarily in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and New York. Retired after a 43-year career as a newspaper reporter and copywriter, David believes in advocating for bicycle safety, as well as maintenance and expansion of bike trails and designated bike lanes.
Tim Phillips
Tim’s an educator. He started as an elementary school teacher & finished as a professor & chairperson of the Dept. of Instructional Technology at Bloomsburg University. He’s been riding a bike since childhood and never stopped. He bikes for transport, shopping, exercise, & the joy of riding. He completed century rides and multi-day rides like Erie Canal Trail & Greater Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail. He enjoys teaching people how to ride safely and repair their bikes.
Lisa Lubin
Lisa is a former broadcast journalist who recently moved to Bethlehem from Chicago where her bike and public transit were her main modes of transport. She’s biked all over the world in places like Vietnam, London, Melbourne, Berlin, and Buenos Aires. When not riding, Lisa freelances as a travel writer and video consultant, and is the executive director for a farm animal welfare non-profit. Her goal is to help make the Lehigh Valley an area centered around people, not cars!
Gary Lader
Gary Lader is a commercial architect and owner of 4/4 Architecture, based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, known for thoughtful, practical design that supports health, safety, and community well-being. Through his practice, he helps business owners and nonprofits create spaces that work better for the people who use them. Gary is active in local civic and professional initiatives and contributes his time to community-focused design efforts. Outside the office, he is an accomplished musician who brings creativity and collaboration to his musical pursuits.
