CAT Partners with Downtown Bethlehem’s McCarthy’s Red Stag Pub

Red Stag Check

We are excited about our new partnership with longtime downtown Bethlehem business, McCarthy’s Red Stag Pub and Whiskey Bar to help raise funds for CAT’s new storefront coming to downtown Bethlehem.

The CAT Office and Bicycle Cooperative is moving to the heart of Bethlehem into a street-facing space at the new Walnut Street Garage at the end of 2025. This new space will enable CAT to offer more programming including more group bike rides and traffic skills classes, more bicycle mechanics classes, and more opportunities for adults and youth to build and maintain their own bikes.

This week, McCarthy’s presented a check to CAT for $1000 for funds raised from our recent social + fundraiser held at the bar. Ten percent of all proceeds went to CAT as well as 100% of proceeds from a special cocktail, which was served up by Bethlehem’s Mayor Reynolds and former congresswoman, Susan Wild.

CAT’s goal is to raise $100,000 by June, with $50,000 from individual donors and supporting organizations and $50,000 from grant funding.

“Having partners like Red Stag makes CAT feel welcome and supported by the downtown business community, especially a 20-year veteran business owner such as Neville,” said Scott Slingerland, CAT’s executive director. “Moving our CAT Office & Bicycle Cooperative downtown offers opportunities for CAT to synergize with downtown businesses, visitors and residents.”

“Bethlehem is kind of like a big village, really. So, it fits to have it be safe, to cycle or other methods of transportation. I love to walk, so anything that encourages that, I think is a great thing,” said Neville Gardner, owner of McCarthy’s Red Stag Pub. “Everybody drives a car everywhere. I think that this will encourage people to take every opportunity to ride their bike.”

CAT is proud that Bethlehem has been CAT’s base of operations for 32 years. As a Lehigh Valley-wide non-profit organization supporting biking/walking/ADA access, and public transit, Bethlehem is geographically central for CAT to serve residents of Bethlehem, Easton, Allentown, and the 59 other municipalities of the Lehigh Valley more easily by human-power.

“It invites a culture shift away from cars to support an enjoyable pedestrian experience and public transit with an array of LANTA Bus routes that converge in the 1-block radius of our new facility,” said Slingerland.
